Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead

This book will change you forever. I don't mean that in some proverbial cliche kind of way. This book will actually change you. I mean, you probably think you know a lot about stuff and you probably are somewhat smart, but if you haven't read this book, then you haven't met Howard Roark. That's all I have to say really. You will only agree with me if you have met Roark yourself. Any other form of convincing I try to do will be futile, you won't believe me until you've read the book.
Now, here is the thing about Ayn Rand: aside from the fact that she is an amazing storyteller, her books aren't necessarily plot-driven. Philosophy, architecture, love, scandal, psychology... what doesn't this book have? What I love the most? She has some of the most well-rounded, in depth characters in all of the fiction world. Each character is so well described, written and spoken, that you don't even feel as though you are reading about them; Roark lived and I breathed. I am convinced of it. She is brilliant. The reason The Fountainhead is my favorite of her novels and not Atlas Shrugged, is simply because I read The Fountainhead first. Truth be told, after I read Atlas Shrugged I became obsessed and loved Ayn Rand even more. Had I read it first, it could have potentially been my favorite. Close call.
Tips: Keep a pen and highlighter handy. Trust me.
